David Burge Updates

David Burge updates his journey with leukemia

Christmas Eve

with 3 comments

This morning Dave was tired and dizzy. His sinuses are bothering him; giving him a headache down one side of his face. Then he tripped on a step: he wanted to go outside to say hello when Philip (brother-in-law) came to collect their guinea pigs. Rachel caught him (almost) and so lessened the impact. After his bath he vomited. So it hasn’t been the best day. He has been resting in bed most of the day but felt able to come to the lounge this evening. Today he ate his meals with only 1-2 children with him. The rest of us eat in the dining room. Sitting at a table with 9 other people (some of them not that quiet) is exhausting.

Dave is appreciating those that drop in and say hello. I have our bedroom set up with a mini-lounge in it (a bit like a hospital room) so today when a dear friend visited, she visited us while Dave stayed in bed.

Dave has a little lap top and we have a wireless modem so he is able to access the web from bed. He keeps sharing with me his latest discoveries about Egyptology and I try to sound enthusiastic. Actually I don’t try and I don’t sound enthusiastic. I do share Dave’s interest in the Bible, Austrian economics, humour and politics… but I have drawn the line at Egyptology 🙂

This evening the children and I are going to our Christmas Eve service. Today I have been thinking about Jesus coming to us as the “new Adam”, a life-giving spirit.

I Cor 15:44ff
“If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.”
