David Burge Updates

David Burge updates his journey with leukemia

Back in Hospital

with 2 comments

Dave is back in hospital. The headaches are worse. He is due to have a CAT scan and we hope that this will show whether it is his sinuses that are causing the problem. Another option is the headaches are a side effect from the spinal tap; this can be treated with caffeine. The doctors are also trying some different pain medication.

I am praying that he has a good sleep tonight. Dave has had a headache for 2-4 hours every night – except one – since before Christmas. The ward is loud, bright and busy even at night. I am praying for a kind nurse: s/he can make a great deal of difference when coping with pain/fatigue. The nurse who cared for Dave this morning was wonderful. She did not take her lunch break until she saw Dave onto the Ward about 2pm. God bless you Debbie, you seemed like an angel to us today.

The chemo treatments are continuing according to the schedule. Dave will have blood products through the night.

No visitors please except immediate family.

  1. Oh dear. I can testify that hospitals are not a good place to be when you have a headache and/or are tired. Thankfully Ward 62 is quieter than many others, but if you’re receiving treatment through the night the nurses will turn on lights and disturb your sleep.

Hopefully the caffeine/Coke treatment will be effective 🙂

    A joke for the kids:

A man took his cat to the vet and said “My cat seems to be unwell but I don’t know what’s wrong with him”. So the vet put the cat on the table and looked at it closely. He walked around the table very slowly and looked at every part of the cat. Finally the vet said “Your cat is fine, that will be $300 thank you”.

“What!” said the man, “I’ve only been here five minutes and you’re charging me $300”.

“Yes” said the vet, “CAT scans are very expensive these days”.
