Medical Update

Dave went into the Day Stay for a blood transfusion on Tuesday. He rang me to tell me his blasts (cancer cells) are very high, up from 68 (Monday) to 109 . They have given him platelets as well as the blood transfusion because his gums and nose are bleeding a little.

Today the blasts (cancer cells) have climbed to 160 even with an increase in his chemo tablets. He is taking morphine every 2 hours during the day. He tried to write this morning but was not able. Hospice rang today and someone is coming in the morning. We have an appointment with the consultant in the afternoon.

  9. The Lord is your Shepherd. He is walking with you through this. He is right there with you! He knows all about pain and death and He was victorious over it.

Lord, please blanket the Burge family with Your everlasting love and comfort. You love them so much that You gave Your son for them. Allow them to feel Your presence with them right now.

  12. Hi David and Tarnya,

Firstly let me say that I stumbled upon your blog quite by accident (or divine intervention). I was researching cancer topics, and how people cope with it,etc, as my brother in law recently passed away after a really short battle with cancer. Needless to say we were really shocked, and found it difficult to come to terms with it. Of course us being in NZ and our entire family being in South Africa did not help either. Anyway… It did not take me long to realise that I was reading all about an amazing young lady’s dad, Rachel! You see, I work at Pukekohe Christian School. Talk about small world! I don’t think I have ever seen Rachel without a smile on her face! I even had the pleasure of meeting Tarnya and Jonathan not so long ago. I just want to thank you all for being such an inspiration to me, because whenever I feel sad about John (my brother in law), I just look at Rachel, and that smile tells me that John is in a better place, with a beautifully healed body, and is sitting at the feet of our Father! So thank you so much, and I will add you to our prayers and thank God for such strong, Godly people in our lives!

    Stay blessed, Burge family!

  14. To Dave and the extended family, let us Praise the name of the Lord for His name alone is excellent, His glory above the earth. Be enveloped in His glory at this pressured time, and be lifted high. You are His treasured saints. Juliette
