David Burge Updates

David Burge updates his journey with leukemia

Thank you to all those who send me words of comfort and who pray for us. You pour grace into our lives.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”

This road has been walked by many before me. Elisabeth Elliot was widowed twice. Her books are a great comfort:

The Path of loneliness: Finding Your Way through the Wilderness to God and
A Path through Suffering: Discovering the Relationship between God’s Mercy and our Pain.

  1. Beautifully written Tarnya. You are on my mind a lot, and I know that God will uphold you, and pick you up when you fall. He’s good like that 🙂

I came across another very helpful book – a woman’s journey with similar circumstances (although she only had 3 kids ;)) I’ll dig it out for you when i can – it’s in storage. But there will be lots of lovely things to learn as well which will sprinkle through the tough stuff. I found the tough stuff came in ways I didn’t expect, and at completely unprepared for moments. Never mind – God knew this would happen and He’s right there, in it all with you. And most likely will take you down some very unfamiliar paths – but His fragrance will be there too.
Sleep well honey. Dave is at rest. You are allowed to rest too!

  2. Noelle and I are mourning with you. We don’t know the depth of your loss. But Jesus knows all about our trails. We are with you in prayer.

  4. I was impressed by (and blessed by) Dave’s positive spirit and fruitful life upon meeeting him in 2000. Since his illness began, I have been blessed, encouraged, inspired and convicted by you and Dave both — your faith, focus on others, faithfulness, and so much more. You are a true woman of God and model of motherhood. God be with you each day, comfort, provide and sustain. You have eight “little” Daves and Tarnyas who will each grow into godly adults as well, for which your reward is waiting and for which the world will be richer! – Love in Jesus, Edward

  5. We are deeply sorry for your loss, Tarnya. We have been very moved, over the last months, at the wonderful witness you and David have both borne to the grace of God. David has lived a most impressive and effective life in the service of God and others. May you and your family be deeply comforted and encouraged by the presence of the risen Christ and by the fulness of your hope in Him. “May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do this.”

Andrew Diprose who is now in Italy passes on his condolences to you and the children.
I hope to come to your house to view David tomorrow afternoon as well as spend some time with you and the children.

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1Jn 4.4

For though the mountains depart and the hills be removed. My kindness shall not depart you and my covenant of peace will not leave you. Says the lord who has compassion for you.
